Writing Fellows

The Writing Fellows Program is at the heart of what we do—helping writers write. Each year, four über-talented playwrights join us to work on a new play over the course of nine months, bringing it from draft form to a production-ready state. This is not your standard creative development process; we customize each residency based on the individual and collective needs within the group. Our holistic approach means we’re not just guiding creative development, but professional development as well (it is called show “business” after all). The entire experience is designed to widen an artist’s network of resources and gain a foothold in the New York theater world.

What We’re Looking For

Above all, we look for dedicated writers in the early stages of their theater careers who crave a rigorous development process. We value intellectual curiosity, evocative language, the contemplation of big unanswerable questions, stories that embrace the complexity of life, and a demonstrated understanding of the possibilities of dramaturgical structure.
