This motley crew of artistic types, business folks, and general renaissance people is an invaluable resource for Playwrights Realm. We can always count on them to lend an ear, lend a hand, or lend their brains (but we are very careful to return everything).

Katherine Kovner

Artistic Director
Katherine can be occasionally glimpsed behind a towering stack of scripts. If not, chances are you’ll find her reading a great book.

Katherine’s prodigious script-reading powers paid off when she came across Dov and Ali by Anna Zeigler and Substitution by Anton Dudley, both of which she directed for the Realm. Before founding The Realm Katherine was the artistic associate at Classic Stage Company, a freelance director, and also assisted directors on Broadway, Off-Broadway and in the West-End. Other directing credits include: Roxy Font by Liza Lentini for The New York Fringe Festival which earned four stars from Time out Magazine and won the Fringe’s best ensemble award; Elliot: A Soldier's Fugue by Quiara Alegria Hudes at Luna Stage; Iphigenia and Other Daughters by Elllen McLaughlin also at Luna Stage and Lizardskin by Jen Silverman at The New York Fringe Festival. Katherine has developed work with New York Theater Workshop, Soho Rep, New Georges, New Dramatists, New York Stage and Film, Classic Stage Company, EST, and Brooklyn Playwrights Collective. In 2006 she was the directing fellow at The Public Theatre's Shakespeare Lab and she was a member of The Soho Rep Writer Director Lab in 2008-2009. She is a member of the Lincoln Center's Directors Lab and an affiliated artist with New Georges. Katherine is a graduate of Brown University but her favorite color is red.

Stephanie Ybarra

Producing Director
Stephanie, an avid fan of her hometown San Antonio Spurs NBA team, still owns (and often wears) a pair of cowboy boots.

With over a decade of experience under her belt (which matches her boots), Stephanie is frequently up to one ear in scripts and the other ear in spreadsheets. She made her New York producing debut in 2007 with the original production of Tarell McCraney’s The Brothers Size at the Public Theater’s Under the Radar Festival, for which she received the inaugural Producer’s Chair Award from the Foundry Theater. Since then she has produced at HERE Arts Center, Ars Nova’s A.N.T Fest, and INTAR. Stephanie got her start in her native Texas, working in Marketing and Development for Dallas Theater Center and Dallas Children's Theater, and then spent time in Boston serving as Deputy Director of Operations for Citizen Schools, a national after school program. Roles such as
Associate Managing Director of New Play Production at Yale Repertory Theatre, Executive Producer of Ensemble Company for the Performing Arts and Interim General Manager for Two River Theater Company round out her tri-state credits. Stephanie is a card-carrying member of the LXP Producing Collective and Women’s Project Producer’s Lab, holds a BFA in Performance from Baylor University, an MFA in Theater Management from Yale School of Drama, and a deep belief in the power of the post-it note.

PIcture of Producing Assistant, Alyssa Anderson

Alyssa Anderson

Associate Producer
Alyssa’s knack for number-crunching is matched only by her ability to rock the mic at karaoke night with everything from Salt n’ Pepa to the Dixie Chicks.

Alyssa honed both skills – and many more – during her time at Yale School of Drama, where she earned an MFA in Theater Management. At Yale, Alyssa had the pleasure of serving as Managing Director of the Yale Cabaret for the 2009-2010 season, as well as Assistant Managing Director for Yale Repertory Theatre’s 2008-2009 season. Before trading in her cowboy boots for snow boots, she worked with the Orlando Shakespeare Theatre as both Marketing Coordinator and Box Office Manager, and with Planet Hollywood Orlando as their Unit Accountant. Alyssa has a BFA in performance from the University of Central Florida, and fiery red hair befitting her sizzling sense of humor.
